Until recently, the CITB wanted out of training delivery and thought it had sold its Kent campus. But now it is investing millions in redeveloping it as part of an expansion of its direct training facilities.

Erith in Kent is home to one of three CITB National ɫèֱ²¥ Colleges (NCCs) – the other two are in Bircham Newton in Norfolk (the CITB’s historic home) and  Inchinnan in Glasgow.

In 2017 CITB produced its transformative Vision 2020 strategy, to get out of direct training delivery and simply administer levy collection and funding distribution. The training facilities were put up for sale. NCC Midlands in Kings Norton was sold to Walsall College and NCC East (Bircham Newton) was all set to be sold to West Suffolk College until the deal broke down in 2020 amid the covid pandemic.

The CITB has this week published its 202/26 business plan, which includes £15m investment in the NCC estate and an expansion of the training provision across the three sites.

Work will start this year on demolition of the site in Erith in north Kent and preparatory work for a planned full rebuild of the site.
